It took seconds for CNN to spread the word about the life-altering event that took place here in Costa Rica. An earthquake of 7.6-Richter-scale magnitude shook the country and its neighbors (Nicaragua & Panama) Wednesday, September 5th, at exactly 8:45 in the morning, sending panicked people into the streets, unpaved roads or their backyard. Results from Echoing Green’s Connect with you Community Challenge are in!

As you may remember, I entered Echoing Green’s Work on Purpose Program‘s Challenge where the most voted idea would receive $1000 to be implemented in partnership with GOOD. They had asked people to submit ideas on how to cultivate a deeper relationship with the community I serve and I proposed to use these funds to help build a computer for low-income youth and families in rural Costa Rica. On June 13th, 2012, four women’s cooperatives finished their 3-month workshop as part of Costa Rica’s National Women’s Institute’s (Instituto Nacional de las Mujeres in Spanish) initiative to understand the needs of women’s coops in rural communities.
